Bio
Orsolya Takacs is an artist specializing in the traditional Turkish art of ebru, or paper marbling, which she has studied for years under the guidance of her esteemed teacher, Ertugrul Incel.
Her journey into the world of ebru began in Budapest, where she first encountered this centuries-old art form. Since 2017, Orsolya has been traveling annually to Istanbul to develop her practice and deepen her knowledge. Through her dedication and years of practice, she has not only mastered the technique of ebru, but also embraced its spiritual dimension, which aligns with her interest in the mystical teachings of Sufism.
Her work reflects deep respect for tradition, making her work a unique blend of history and our days. Orsolya’s art has evolved into a personal exploration of self, religion, color, movement, and balance, with each piece being a testament to her continued growth and refinement as an ebru artist.
The master and student relationship in traditional Turkish ebru, a form of marbling art, is fundamental and deeply rooted in Sufism. This connection not only facilitates the transfer of technical skills but also embodies spiritual mentorship, where the master guides the student in both artistic expression and inner growth. Ultimately, the master-student dynamic in ebru serves as a vital bridge between art, spirituality, and cultural heritage, preserving the essence of both artistic practice and Sufi teachings.
